Introduction

Ministry of IT has been working on developing an IDN ccTLD for Pakistan. In this context, the application forپاکستان . from the ministry has been approved by ICANN and the delegation process should now be undertaken. In pursuance of this, the ccTLD structure, policies and manager need to be finalized.

This workshop will provide local community a platform for the feedback on policy issues relating to internationalizing domain names in Pakistani languages. The workshop is divided into two sessions. First day session will be open public meeting in which interested individuals as well as experts from various related fields will participate in the discussion on policy issues. The second day session will be a closed meeting in which members of policy sub-committee will finalize the policy draft based on public opinion. Also discussion regarding پاکستان- IDN ccTLD Manager will also take place during the closed session meeting.

Some of the major anticipated outcomes of this workshop are as follows.

• پاکستان Registry Model, in context of the other existing models around the world
• Policy for پاکستان ccTLD

Purpose

The purpose of this workshop is to finalize the policy draft based on the feedback of local community and relevant experts for consideration by the Ministry of IT.

Date and Venue

The workshop will be held at Center for Language Engineering, Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore from 9:00AM – 5:30PM on April 20-21, 2012.
